EOC - ESSENCE OF COLOUR

The beautiful world around us is filled with colors. Without color all things around us would have been pale and lifeless.Color is part of the natural beauty that allows us to connect with the world around us. Color not only allows us to distinguish between different objects we find in the world, but influences how we perceive the world. They spur emotions that we later associate with certain objects or settings, and create bookmarks to help recall specific memories later.Color is an important tool for communicating – within our communities, in nature, and in advertising and marketing. It’s an element of visual language that people process almost immediately. Color ‘jumps out’ at viewers before they even begin to process what they are looking at. Because of this immediate impact, color plays a large role in how we visually communicate.Color plays a critical role in our everyday life. Color can sway thinking, change actions, and cause reactions. Color can attract any individual’s attention or change their mood. It can cause irritation or soothe your eyes.

TONAL VARIATION

On the very first day, we had to make swatches of the natural objects according to the colour assigned to us(red). While making the swatches I realised that adding water to the colour gave it a light undertone, like red going to pinkish tone. While making the swatches I also realised that every tone and shade had its own vibe and it gave a big difference to the feeling associated with the colour. Every tonal variation showcased multiple shades of one colour and each one of them reflected a completely different emotion than the other one. Soon we will familiar with the tonal variation that the colour will have not only within itself but also when mixed with other colours.

Also on day 5 ,we experimented with how the perception of meaning/communication of colour when there are changes with the density of pigment which itself tells how there are tonal variations within one colour.

Every colour and medium react very differently on different surfaces. Different types of surfaces I used was wood, cardboard, Paper, Handmade sheet, aluminium, Sun board, plastic and cloth. The different types of mediums I used were poster paints, oil pastels, watercolours and pencil colours.I realised that some surfaces  Manipulated the medium is in such a way that they appeared to be either dull,Bright dark and maybe even gave that transparency And I also realised that some mediums like water colours and the dry mediums warrant really usable on different surfaces.

SYMBOLISM AND ASSOCIATION

Every colour has its own numerous Number of associations and symbolisms. When I was creating my mind map I realised that one colour can I had so many associations and symbolism, in fact, there can be even Associations and symbolism that contradict each other. For example, the colour assigned to me was red, it’s not only the colour of love but also anger and revenge. One colour representing two completed different feelings,How different brands have different marketing strategies and propagandas For a particular colour in their logo, how “red” fruits get “red” colour.

Color is an important tool for communicating – within our communities, in nature, and in advertising and marketing. It’s an element of visual language that people process almost immediately. Color ‘jumps out’ at viewers before they even begin to process what they are looking at. Because of this immediate impact, color plays a large role in how we visually communicate.

PROCESS OF INQUIRY

During the project, we had experienced different Approaches to enquiry(Observation, reading, viewing, discussions, survey, etc). Different approaches of Enquiry gave us a very different aspect and perspective of thinking towards colour. While I was doing the survey I realised that every person has its own way of seeing colour. For example, I always assumed that red is strongly associated with “revenge” But after the survey I realised that a very few amount of people associate red with revenge, I also realised that a lot of people associate deep and warm tones with “boldness”.When we would experimenting with the cinematography usage of colours,I realised that red and its tones were often used to depict a party and concert sort of environment, showcasing red as a colour of excitement and joyful vibe.

In the last 5 days of exploring colours, I learned a lot. The research, videos & discussions expanded my knowledge a lot and changed my perception towards colours & now I’ll be seeing colours in a completely different perspective. Every task has educated me more about colours. I got to know about how a colour’s meaning and perspective varies person to person, their different vibes and associations, the symbolism, their importance in the design and marketing world which I really never paid attention to before.

This project even made me watch movies from a completely different perspective. I read the history of red, I read that red pigment made from ochre was one of the first colours used in prehistoric art.

When we started with the colour swatches, I wasn’t really sure about what exactly it’s gonna tell us but then I understood that how every project has its own “red”.Every swatch has its own vibe and perspective. Like I started making a swatch for pomegranate and it was like blood-red giving that scary and deep vibe whereas the last swatch was like sort of pastel colour and gave a completely different vibe which was calming and natural.

This project indeed changed my psychological perspective of viewing colours. I learned how colour can either make a product “hit” or a total “fail” in the design industry.

I learned how colours play an important role in cinematography, how colour can showcase a mood or emotion in a scene or movie.

I finally know what “colour wheel” what are “colour schemes” which I could never understand but I finally did!!

THANK YOU,HAVE A GREAT DAY!
