M2M~MUNDANE TO MAGNIFICENT

As the name suggests “mundane to magnificent” ,something ordinary which can be manipulated into something magnificent.A session where we understood the Characteristics of different type of papers and how do they behave. In this session we experimented different types of paper and gathered knowledge about them.Here are things I learned during this session:-

PAPER AS A MATERIAL (characteristics/properties)

OHP SHEET: OHP sheet is it really difficult to handle, it is transparent And we really have to check the adhesives we are using on it because mostly all the adhesives are seen through it and cutting this sheet with X-Acto knife is much easier than with a paper cutter. • NEWSPRINT: Newsprint is a very thin paper, it is mainly used in newspapers and books. it gets a little soggy with glue.

• BOND PAPER: Bond paper is easy to handle paper, it’s easy to manipulate and work with. • CARTRIDGE SHEET: cartridge sheet is a thick type of paper and is a little difficult to manipulate and paper cutter works better on it than an X-Acto knife.

• ORIGAMI SHEET: origami sheets usually have designs on one side and white background on the other. Origami paper is square and folds well but often may be quite thin.

• TISSUE PAPER: Tissue paper is a fragile paper and is a little difficult to handle. • KITE PAPER: It’s very light in weight and a very thin paper. It is a little difficult to handle, it’s a little difficult to cut that paper because while working with X-Acto knife/paper cutter.

DO’S AND DONT’S

• While using paper cutters don't put your finger at the edge of the scale or you’ll end up cutting your finger.

• Be careful while using strong adhesives like polyfix,feviquick, etc. Don't panic in case your fingers are stuck,just keep your fingers in hot water for a few minutes.

• While burning paper, try using a candle instead of a matchstick plus Plus don’t burn the paper inside the house or near to any sockets/wires instead go in an open place like the balcony.

• If you are trying to change the blunt Blade of your cutter then keep it away from your eyes and remove it very carefully or you’ll end up hurting yourself.

• While burning people don’t keep the paper very close to your body or your hand, maintain a little distance.

DESIGN VOCABULARY

• Newspaper pulp: News paper pulp is a lot like paper-mache. Well you basically play with paper by manipulating it.

• Paper crumpling: paper crumpling is basically crushing and creasing paper.

• Tactile: designed to be perceived by touch.

• Mundane: something ordinary

MY EXPERIENCE

My experience in this entire session was like a rollercoaster , at first when it started I felt that I wasn’t really able to showcase the standard of work I generally do and wasn’t able to correctly showcase my skills through my work but I learnt a lot of new things and in my final submission I worked hard and used all the overall learnings I had throughout the session and collaborated them in the form of a final beautiful outcome i.e.cube box.Especially our teachers were so encouraging and understanding throughout the session, They helped us to gain a lot of knowledge that we really needed. I personally really needed this knowledge as I had never worked with paper or tried any paper techniques before this session. I wasn’t that confident when This session started but till the ending, I eventually gained a lot of knowledge and confidence due to my work. The main challenge was to Bring out good work with such amazing yet competitive batchmates but undoubtedly they were very helping. The thing that kept me motivated was to bring out go to work and even if not then to gain some knowledge which would definitely help me.

LEARNINGS

From this session, I learned how important it is to be punctual and do your submissions on time. One must be confident about his or her work and even if not then instead of cribbing about it it’s better to work hard upon it. I learnt how important it is to seek the opportunity you get in your life and even if you have competitive people around you, be fair and confident and work hard upon your work.
